The Truth About Getting Fit (Especially If You’re Over 40)

Posted on June 1, 2025

One of the biggest lies the fitness world keeps selling...

That you need to overhaul your entire life — your meals, your schedule, your workouts — and spend hours on the treadmill just to see results.

Not true.

What if I told you the real secret to making progress (and actually sticking to it) is to simply change one thing?

Yep. Just one.

Sounds too good to be true, right? I get it — especially with the endless marketing promising quick fixes through expensive powders, sketchy detoxes, and filtered-before-and-after pics.

But as a personal trainer who specializes in women over 40 fitness, I’m here to tell you: that’s all noise.

And honestly, it’s made my job harder — because it’s trained people to believe that if they’re not doing everything, they’re doing nothing.

Let’s be real: you don’t need a fitness overhaul. You need a small win that builds momentum.

We’re creatures of habit — especially as we get older. That’s why trying to change 27 things overnight never works. Your brain and body will fight back. Cue the cravings, the low energy, the “why even bother” spiral.

So what’s the move?

Today, right now, take five minutes and ask yourself:

What’s one habit I could change that would make me feel just a little better?

➡️ Maybe you swap your nightly ice cream for a high-protein yogurt twice a week.

➡️ Maybe you start your day with 50 bodyweight squats and a short walk.

➡️ Maybe you drink water before coffee.

These might seem small — but guess what? That’s the point.

Because one change becomes two. And two becomes a habit. Before long, you’re noticing your jeans feel better, your energy lasts longer, and your confidence starts to creep back in.

That’s when the real transformation happens — not just in your body, but in how you see yourself.

And for my clients here in Meridian, Idaho or online across the U.S., that’s the shift I help them make — one real, doable habit at a time.

So don’t underestimate your one change. Start where you are. Keep going.

Even if my programs or free resources aren't the perfect fit for you right now, don’t stop. Keep looking until you find what works for you.

You’ve got this.
